Why I chose it: The first distillery I visited in Kentucky was Peerless in the fall of 2018. It was just 3 years after they had restored their downtown distillery and their bourbon had not yet aged enough to try. I got to sample some of the rye though and it was very promising (even winning awards at that young age). I appreciate the fact that they never water it down, their beautiful bottles, and the fact that these bottles rarely miss. Is the single barrel version worth the ~$35 premium over their (likely) younger but cask-strength small batch? I guess it depends on the bottle, but the small batch (~$89 MSP but often higher) is a good value and not one to sleep on either (especially if you can find it competitively priced). While I enjoy their bourbons, I think Peerless Rye is their product that demands a premium price and is worth having on your shelf (or in your advent calendar!).
