Day 5
Weller Special Reserve | WSR
Style: Blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Mashbills: The Original Wheated Bourbon. Undisclosed Buffalo Trace “Wheated” Mashbill; Corn, Wheat, and Malted Barley
Aged: Rumored to be about 7 Years
Proof: 90
Cost: Paid $40
Why I chose it: Everybody loves WSR...or do they? No better way to know for sure than by tasting it blind! The "Original Wheated Bourbon" uses wheat as its secondary grain, instead of the more common rye grain. WSR is the most attainable and affordable offering in the Weller lineup and shares the mashbill and rickhouses of its highly sought-after big brothers (W.L. Weller, Weller Full Proof, Weller Antique 107, Weller 12, Weller Single Barrel, and Weller CYPB). Lastly, when pouring 48 bottles, who doesn't love a screw top? Ironically this was the second worst bottle to pour because the groves from the cap channel did not naturally rest on the tasting bottles.
