Day 2
New Riff, Single Barrel Kosher Bourbon
Style: Kosher Single Barrel of Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Mashbill: Not stated, but other barrels have stated a blend of 65% corn, 30% rye, and 5% malted barley.
Aged: 4 Years, 3 months
Proof: 113.8
Cost: $75
Why I chose it: Another classic KY hug bottle, swapping yesterday's secondary grain of wheat for Rye. Even though New Riff is new to the scene, I have liked everything they are doing. This bottle is a Kosher bottle, which makes it quite rare. The bartender at Bub City told me this is the only Kosher barrel currently on the market from them. As I understand it, almost all bourbon could be Kosher. One of the extra stipulations is that the distillery must sell off the barrels during aging each Passover so as not to own leavened grains - then they buy it/them back! Thought that was interesting.
