Day 3
Belle of Dayton Distillery
Detrick Full Proof Single Barrel Rye
Style: Single Barrel of Straight Rye Whiskey from OH
Mashbill: Rye, White Corn, Wheat, & Malted Barley
Aged: 9 Years
Proof: 112.6
MSRP: $99.99
Why I chose it: I had never heard of or tasted the brand but was excited to include it given a recommendation from a returning calendar participant. Our first Rye (meaning Rye is the prominent grain of 50%+ in the mash bill) is also our first four-grain whiskey of 2024, exhibiting unique flavors from the combinations of White Corn, Wheat, and Malted Barley to the Rye. I love exposing the group to new things, including our first bottle distilled in OH (Dayton to be precise).
Worth noting: When I received the bottles, I was quite confused by the labeling of "Small batch" and the usage of batch number, something very uncommon for single barrels to list. After considering it longer, I suppose one could argue that information is probably as, or even more, useful than the actual barrel number (which is absent in this labeling). We're informed which bottle it is in the barrel, but not the barrel number itself—quite unconventional labeling!
