Day 21

Henry McKenna 10 Year Single Barrel

Style: Kentucky Straight Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon

Mashbill: 78% Corn, 10% Rye, 12% Malted Barley

Aged: 10 Years

Proof: 100

MRSP: $49.99 (Finally, a bottle that is actually reducing in price!)

Why I chose it: This is a classic Kentucky bourbon that kicked off the calendar (day 1) in the original years (2022 and 2023). Our tasting in year 2 fell flat, and I skipped it last year. I was on the fence about bringing it back, and ultimately decided to for the following reasons: Firstly, this bottle's production has caught up to demand, and you can find this in most places. Good to know if you like it enough to pursue it at the falling prices. Secondly, this is the third Heaven Hill mashbill bourbon that we have had. It's fun to be able to compare the additional proofing and finishing that the non-producing distillers (NPD) had on their bottles (day 2 and day 8). Worth noting that these are single-barrel products, so no 2 are completely the same. Do they still have the magic, or is it better to pay more for a barrel proof version?
