Day 4
Valentine Distilling Co, Mayor Pingree 7 Year Straight Bourbon Single Barrel
Style: Single Barrel of Straight Bourbon
Mashbills: Undisclosed, but all of their "red label batch series" are Corn, Rye, Malted Barley.
Aged: 7 Years
Proof: 123.6
Cost: $75
Why I chose it: My bourbon club hosted their annual party at Bub City and they had some great single barrels for sale. Each bottle purchased garnered some raffle tickets for the chance to buy an allocated gem. Honestly, I just wanted as many raffle tickets as possible to get offered the Thomas H. Handy (there were others like Weller CYPB, Stagg, and Lot B). I lost the raffle, but the guy sitting next to me was called for that and he had never even heard of Handy before. Always next year (and now you know one of my favorite Ryes to find me)!
Selfishness aside, I tasted most of the bottles for sale and this bottle and day 2's New Riff were some of my favorites. At that point, I only had 3 or 4 slots left so I was being picky. I believe this is likely MGP* juice from IN, but it was aged and bottled in MI, our third production state of the calendar. I had rarely seen and never purchased a Mayor Pingree before so that was also a new experience to add to memory bank.
